Getting Lyme Disease after regaining my health on the raw foods diet was a tough thing to accept. How could a body cure itself with a raw food diet, yet then fail to even recognize and destroy the Lyme bacteria? So many individuals have recovered from awful diseases, including cancer, by eating a raw food diet. Why, as a raw foodist, has my body been unable to easily eliminate this lyme disease?

I know Jim and I weren't the only ones wondering this. Many of you have voiced concerns, as well. Questions have been asked about how healthy my raw diet has actually been. Have I been cheating and eating cooked foods? Have I been eating too many packaged raw food snacks? Am I drinking alcohol? What have I been doing *wrong* with my diet in order for this to happen in my body? Here are some answers:

  • My raw diet has been 100%, other than about a span of one month when I was consuming a tiny amount of roasted carob in some shakes.
  • I don't eat a lot of packaged raw snacks because they don't digest well (and they are quite expensive).
  • No, I don't eat cooked foods or drink alcohol.
  • Before my symptoms began, my diet was mostly greens (lots of salads), fruit smoothies, and veggies with various nut/seed dips.
  • I was spending a lot of time outside in the sunshine, meditating almost daily, keeping active with things that interest me, etc.

Essentially, I was living a mostly healthy lifestyle (I say mostly, because I did have times of frustration about still being here in Pittsburgh instead of moving forward with our plans of relocating to a better climate).

So, how could my well-nourished body not recognize and eliminate the Lyme Disease when it entered my system

One of our Pure Jeevan family members, Joanna Steven, offered some very thoughtful words when I shared that question and my resulting frustration about contracting this disease:

"I think your case is different from cancer and all that. With cancer, the body is supposed to stop the proliferation of cancerous cells, and with raw, it can do its job again. We all have cancerous cells that are killed off everyday. With Lyme, it's more difficult. Our body doesn't deal with the bacteria everyday, so curing it is a very different thing. Don't beat yourself up."

When Jim and I read Joanna's comment, we immediately felt a sense of peace come over us. It made sense: my body is learning to deal with something it has never encountered before! Some days it seems to be doing very well. Yesterday, for example, my pain was about a 4.5 out of 10. By the evening, however, it had jumped to about an 8 and has lingered there into this morning.

I've asked myself a lot of questions about this Lyme Disease, my health, my thoughts and emotions, etc. At first I was shocked: Nothing like this happens to "me"! KDcat quickly pointed out that just about everyone thinks that when something horrible happens in their lives. Why did this happen? What am I to learn from this? How is this helping me become a better person, deepening my sense of self, propelling me further in the direction I am journeying ?How and why did I manifest this into my life? In what ways can I use what has happened to help others

I don't have the answers to all of my questions, yet, and more questions keep coming to me.I don't doubt this will make me a stronger person in many ways, even though it may be difficult to see that in times when I'm suffering from excruciating pain.

Many times I center myself, am one with my core and separate from my body. Those are times when I am simply an observer, witnessing the beauty of life in all the ways it is present (even in pain). I'd love to say that I am always peaceful and in such a beautiful state of bliss, however that's not the case. I've expressed my fears, worries, tears, frustration, anger, pain, etc., about this disease with close friends and family over the past 2-3 months.

I'm at a point now, however, where I'm shifting to a different level of being. I've accepted that a bacteria has enetered my body, that my body at first didn't recognize it or know what to do with it (so it wreaked havoc and caused a lot of pain, etc.), but that my body is intelligent and able to heal itself. So, I've decided to step aside and get out of my body's way of healing.

Instead of emotionally and mentally bringing my energy down with fears, worries, pain, suffering, tears, etc., I am going to fill my being with love, Love, LOVE and happy, positive thoughts of health and vitality. Instead of restricting what I am doing, for fear of my body experiencing more pain, I'm going to joyfully move my body in ways that feels good to help it keep strong. Instead of limiting what I'm eating (especially in the form of fruit), I'm going to nourish my body with the foods I know intuitively are good for my immune system. I'm not here to struggle with my body, I'm here to help it with this enormous task of regaining its healthy balance so that the Lyme Disease is not able to overpower the vitality my body is meant to have.

I'm asking for your help. Please share your Immune Building Knowledge with me. I'm going to help my body build its immune system in every way possible (body, mind, spirit, emotions). I'll read everything you share. Anything that feels intuitively right at the moment, I'll act on right away. Some things you share may be things my body needs right now that I'm not aware of. Some things you share may be things I'm already doing. And some things you share may be things I've never even known about before and the seeds will be planted to help me now and in the future to help my body build its immune system up as strong as possible -- so that in the future, if I'm ever infected with some foreign pathogen, my body is better able to eliminate it and maintain its vibrant health.

So, what can you share about Immune Building with me?

Lots of love to all of you,

Wendi

XOXOXO

p.s. Your love, caring, and support has been keeping me strong and filled with such happiness. It touches my heart so deeply to know that I am loved by so many. I love each and every one of you, too!!!! *blows kisses*

Hi Wendi
Interestingly enough I was researching Lyme's disease today for my son's teacher - I know diddley squat about it and I'm not a professional but I remember David Wolfe listing his recommendations for LD and they are Japanese Knotweed, Cats Claw, Sarsparilla and Astragulas. He also suggests Reishi, Cordyceps, Shiitake, Maitake and Chaga - never heard of Chaga but he reckons it rebuilds your entire immune system... (There was a third part of his procotcol too, which I believe was marine phytoplankton and blue green algae). It is interesting (if he's to be believed) that according to Monsieur le Wolfe, Japanese Knotweed is a troublesome invasive in Lyme, CT were Lyme was first 'discovered'. My own work with healing via plants would suggest this is significant. Also 70% of our immunity lies in our colon. Wouldn't know where to begin on sorting that out but I am sure there are experts on enemas, colonics and probiotics that can help. There is also a great herbalist called Stephen Buhner - incredible man - anyway he has a book called 'Healing Lyme: Natural Healing And Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis And Its Coinfections" Never read it but I would if I had Lyme's and I have other works of his that I love.
And, just to finish - the opening affirmation - try "I fill my being with...' Otherwise 'it' always stays in the the 'going to' phase... according to the affirmation experts anyway and like I say - I know diddley squat.
You are in my thoughts a lot, I wish you the speediest of recoveries.
Say Hi to Jim for me.

Hi Wendi,
In order to contract something we must be susceptible in some way. Stress of any kind can weaken our immune system. Perhaps the stress you were under over not selling the house etc placed you in a more vulnerable position health wise and made you more susceptible to contracting Lyme and less able to combat it.
As far as supplements go I think we can definitely over do things esp with this whole "superfoods" thing going on of late. One supplement that is high on my list tho is Chlorella. I order mine from the Dr. Mercola site. Good health starts in the bowel so things like Chlorella and high quality probiotics are very beneficial. I also like powdered Colostrum. Yes, it ain't Vegan but it is an excellent immune booster and is anti bacterial and anti viral. Even people who are lactose intolerant can take it as it contains no lactose.
Also highly reccomend a live blood analysis. Really tells us so much about our body.
From what I recall you do not eat low fat raw vegan so perhaps there is a candida issue going on as well that is suppressing your immune system. A live blood analysis will show this and much more.
Much love,
Joanne

Oh Wendi, I'm so happy my comment brought you a little peace! This made me feel great. I'm glad I could help a little.

Here's what I do for my immune system. Please note that I've always had a very strong immune system. I'm sure that if I hadn't been such a nervous wreck as a child, I really would have never been sick at all.

- I drink 3 cups to a quart of green juice everyday. I include romaine lettuce, some dark leafy green (parsley right now, as I have so much of it), ginger, lemon and 1 apple.

- I took my dental fillings out. To get rid of any residual mercury, I take chlorella tablets. I used to take E3live, which I loved. It's a bit expensive as you need to buy several bottles at once, but they do last a long time, so in the end, it really isn't that much. My husband thought it was foolish of me to buy it, but now recognizes that his chronic asthma dramatically improves when he takes E3Live.

- I would like to get pregnant soon, so I take maca. Maca helps the body deal with everyday stresses, and it balances hormones. It's a root vegetable from Peru ground into a fine powder. Some people don't like its taste, but I love it.

- I eat hemp nearly everyday, as it's so nutritious and good for you.

I hope this helps! :)
Love,
Joanna.

If you are not already, seeking some form of hands on healing (Reiki etc). This is excellent assistance for the immune system. Also kineseology (not sure of spelling). This is muscle testing. The body talks through the muscles. This can be used to see what organs are out of balance. To check what is going on with your blood. What foods to stay away from or vis versa. Can also be used to see if what medications, vitamins etc you are taking are what the body needs or does not need. It is extremely facsinating.
As I have found out, seeking others help and assistance is how we learn, grow and evolve ourselves.
I was given the following prayer yesterday and would love to share it with you, and everyone else - you may be able to incorporate it with your meditations etc.
'Divine Love, I do all that I do in love. Any activity or task can be sacred. Rather than acting absentmindedly, I stay present to the task at hand, and I do it with love. Whether I'm completing a routine chore or spending time with someone dear, I infuse my words and actions with love. Routine activities are thereby transformed into sacred and meaningful expressions of God/Source/Creator. I focus my attention on one activity at a time, letting God's/Source's/Creator's love move through me as I complete the task. I am thoughtful, centered and at peace. I aproach all activities today from a place of love, feeling and expressing the peace of God/Source/Creator.'

That line of thought seems to be embedded in us from Western medicine. Sure a raw foods lifestyle keeps us healthy and helps us develop as spiritual beings, but it's not an infallable shield against every known undesired thing. To me it's like that question people like to ask themselves: Why do bad things happen to good people? Who ever guaranteed only good things would happen to good people? I think it's detrimental to our health to focus on what's not working as it continues to invite that energy into our life. You know the Law of Attraction and all. Yes, I listened to David's protocol for Lyme. I tried the Cat's Claw and developed a migraine so severe that I wasn't sure I'd make it through the night. So, I'm pretty leary of ever trying it again.

What's interesting about Japanese Knotweed is that I was eating it earlier this summer...and then came down with Lyme. I'm sure it was just a coincidence. :-P

I have some great lyme books I'm reading right now. One by Bryan Rosner, one by the lovely Laura Bruno (another raw foodie), and the other by Stephen Buhner. Lots of people have recommended Buhner to me, so I'm seriously considering trying out a lot of what he recommends. I just have to be careful with many herbs because I have a heart condition that is very sensitive to changes in my body.

It's interesting that you pointed out that our immunity is mostly present in our colon. I'm working right now on building up my immunity by incorporating fermented, positive-cultured foods into my diet. I'm not liking the taste of the vegan kefir much, but I'm adding spices, etc., to make it into dressings for my salads.

Thanks for the opening affirmation suggestion. "I fill my being with LOVE and HEALTH and LAUGHTER!"

Hi Joanne!

Thanks for your comment. I've gone over this so many times, wondering how it could have happened. Sure, my immune system could have been a bit low from the stress of not moving like I had envisioned.

There's a big problem with Lyme Disease, however. The immune system, even a very healthy one, doesn't always recognize the bacteria right away. It's a tricky bacteria that can disguise itself, among other things.

I'm not a big "superfoods" person, but I am open to looking into anything that intuitively feels right for me at this time. I'm working on building up my beneficial bacteria right now. I've never gotten into taking chlorella, but I'll look into it more.

A live blood analysis is on my list of things I'd love to experience, with or without Lyme Disease. It's so fascinating to me! I'd want to have it done by someone who's been doing it a long time and really knows what he/she's doing.

Even with taking this round of antibiotics, I don't seem to be having any candida issues. Honestly, my body was quite healthy before this Lyme arrived. I'm definitely including more probiotics and keeping an eye out for candida, however, since I know it can cause a lot of complications.

I'm working on living in a more peaceful state of mind, just in case the stress of not moving is what brought this whole thing on. ;-)

Thanks, again, Joanne!

I've heard that a glass of red wine each day is healthful for a number of reasons, and that it is also helpful in building up the immune system. I'm not sure how Lyme arthritis attacks the joints -- with rheumatoid arthritis, it's your own immune system attacking your synovium -- but it would seem that making the immune system stronger might be counter productive? I could be totally wrong on that, but I know with RA, the medical answer is to take drugs that suppress the immune system.
When you're in pain, heat (dry or moist) can be very soothing. Some people get some relief from icing the painful joints, too, though I'm not one of them. I find the best thing to do for that awful pain is to find some sort of distraction from it, like reading a book, or writing (if you can), or watching a movie, or meditating. Distracting the mind from the pain is always helpful, if you can manage it.
You're already eating as healthily as you can, from the sound of it, so I've nothing to suggest there. But do make sure you get plenty of rest. And almost as important is to learn how to slow down and not expect so much of yourself, physically. Arthritis in ANY form is painful and simply wears a person down. It's work trying to cope with continuous pain. So accept that for now, anyway, you'll need to limit your activities when your joints are painful, and not beat yourself up over not being able to do as much as you could before.
I hope that between your diet, your doctor and your positive attitude you'll be able to rid yourself of the Lyme bacteria and get back to your pain-free lifestyle. Wishing you the very best of luck, I am.

Hi Wendi. I m sad to read about your suffering. And am certain about your transforming. What I know about emergencies like this is that they are often reflective of resistance. They tend to force us to go into those places we ve been resisting all along with great effort. Seems the Universe will eventually have its way with us. Each in our own time and in our own way. And though it looks and feels nearly impossibly catastrophic, it is, in essence, one of the most powerful places to be for personal transformation. The intensity of the experience is commiserate with the degree and determination of our resistance. I ve read that you were someone who always did things for yourself and now you are required to open to help. That s a hallmark to this transformational journey. And because I suspect you have been a ?tough cookie? your release into this new awareness and opening is tough. All the questioning ? how could this happen? How come this isn t happening like it s supposed to? All of it is perfect and you are right where you re supposed to be. Opening. This is that horrible grace we sometimes hear about. This awful blessing. And one way we can tell what s unfolding is that despite all the horror and suffering, there s an unexplainable excitement. Something else is happening here. Some awareness is being born. Something is being changed. Perhaps some sun and fresh air would feel good right around now. Take every care. True

Hi Wendi.... I am so sorry for the pain that you are feeling.... I totally understand it as I have Lyme Disease as well. Things do get better over time. I do suggest that you stay on your antibiotics for the length of time you doctor suggests. This kills the little buggers.... then you can suppliment with herbs, colonics, saunas, coffee enemas, body brushing, exercise, lots of rest, plenty of clean water, etc.
The raw food diet is excellent for Lyme, except you must also limit some types of fruit....(bananas, for one-too sweet) and limit the amount of fruit (sugars). Lots of veggies and good protein. If I need cooked food, I have it since I want to eat lots of different types of veggies... Don't want a raw artichoke for instance.
It sounds like you are doing good things ....
Now, we also have something not in common.... I live in sunny California (Palo Alto) and have for 40 some years. It is gorgeous and wonderful (and very expensive).... but after having Lyme, my priorities seemed to change and then the most important thing to me was being close to family even if it meant snow and cold. So, I am moving back to the Pittsburgh area.

I will only give you a little advice....I am in two Lyme groups out here and there are many Ex-Lymies in the group who now feel pretty darn good.....so keep eating healthy, learn to love your antibiotics and supplements....and get well soon..
love and hugs from California,

Hi Wendi

I have not read all the responses for your quesion over immune support but have you tried Richard SCHULZES Echinacia and super tonic? His products are rocket fuel so be warned - but by god they work.

I have not tried it for Lyme disease but I had a chronic case of CFS and used his product for over a year straight and have not gone back to that level of bad health iether.
Yu can put some in the bath asyour skin is like a sponge and can absorb the herbs that way in case your digestive system is bit weak at the moment.

Hi Wendi,

I am sorry to hear of your illness with Lyme Disease. All of the above suggestions sound worthy of investigation. I did see one post further up about making your own collodial silver. I am not sure I would make my own. I have been using the New Silver Solution from Nutronix. It has done amazing things for my body (health). I definitely had digestive problems and fungus. They are both GONE! Because they use nanotechnology, the New Silver Solution can NOT be absorbed by the body. It simply acts like little PacMan and goes around collecting all the bad stuff and eliminating it from the body while leaving the good stuff alone. A great resource site for the silver can be found at www.healthyagain.biz. You can find the silver for sale at www.nutronix.com/sproutlady. American BioTech makes the Silver for Nutronix. Although they offer a product through health food stores, that Silver is only 10 ppm whereas the Silver from Nutronix is 14 ppm. I believe that the Silver will protect us from whatever may come our way, ie swine flu, candida, MRSA.
Best wishes for a complete recovery.

I would like to suggest that you give EFT a try for the pain you are experiencing. I can help you with this via phone or skype if you wish. Here is a testimonial about EFT for LYME disease. http://www.emofree.com/Articles2/motivation-exe...

Also, I would suggest that you re-think the percent of fat you may be eating. I have noticed that a lot of the recipes I have from you are fairly high in fat. Dr. Graham suggests 10% or less fat in a raw diet.

Hi Wendi,

You specificaly asked about making the immune system stronger and I have written an article on doing this with amino acids at - http://www.naturalroute.com/content/healing/imm... or just go to NaturalRoute.com and follow the link on building the immune system.

This is only one of the things that I did when I had male breast cancer 10 years ago. I refused chemo and radiation and I am living a great life now. I realize that you do not have cancer, but this is how I built up my immune system. There were many other things that I did for about 3 years and some I still do. I'm very healthy now.

Amino Acids are a part of our foods. There are some amino acids that can be combined for immune system building. They must be taken on an empty stomach or they will just act as a food. See my site for the specific amino acids and a more complete protocol.

Since you are dealing with a bacteria I suggest you read about what Hulda Clark has written about curing disease. Zapper Barney has many of her and other medical rogue's inventions that have been discovered and then prosecuted by Big Med. Much has been hidden from people that will cure them because of the money involved in keeping them sick.

In terms of where you will move to I suggest New Mexico. I live in a small rural community, Placitas, between Albuquerque (15 minutes) and Santa Fe (35) minutes. Ticks and fleas do not survive in this area. I'm a half mile from a National Forest, so this area is cedar, pinon and juniper trees. It's not a desert like many believe NM to be, although that is only 6 miles away. It takes some people from the East and Midwest awhile to see the beauty. I love not having to drive in heavy traffic anywhere I go here. You would enjoy a trip here to explore the state and it's great, friendly people. I've lived many places and by far this is the most special place for me.

There is much natural beauty to enjoy in New Mexico. I feel like I live in Paradise.

Health, happiness and a life of bliss,

Lee

Wendi Dee,

I am on the backside of Lyme disease (came down with it June 2007). It was quite a ride. The very first lesson that I learned was that I could not fight the spirochetes (I called them the 'little bastards'). Lyme is not about taking on a battle ... or waging war. For me, this was huge to get. I surrendered and inquired into every fear and thought I had ... getting to the point in which I asked myself, "What would be so terrible about ending up in a wheelchair " ... and didn't have a 'terrible' answer. May sound odd, but the shift that happened for me when I asked and surrendered was huge.

One treatment protocol that worked miracles for me was a far-infrared sauna. I had some wild times with amazing rashes showing up in the sauna (lasting only up to 15 mins) and then clearing. My doctor was convinced that the far-infrared sauna was drawing the bacteria up and out through my skin.

It took me 2+ years to feel like I was on the other side. When I started really juicing I did a cleanse and felt like another wave of Lyme hit me for about 24 hours ... rashes and all. Then it cleared. Since that moment I have felt like I have cleared up to 99-100% ... I am ready for another 1% to release if it needs.

My heart goes out to you ... as I well remember the pain, the weakness, the wondering 'how could this happen to me '. Surrender, and surrender again ... and plot a course of action that feels right to you. Keep going. And try out a far-infrared sauna if you can.

My final comment is that it is plain silly for anyone to assume that a 100% raw diet alone will take care of Lyme spirochetes. HA! They are nasty little buggers and will take every opportunity to infiltrate any and all weaknesses in the body. Actually they are amazing. Just not anything I ever want to experience again.

Be well. I send you blessings and blissings of joy. Namaste, Jensey (aka GoRawMe)

My best wishes are for your return to health. I am not sure if it applies; but I will share with you. I had breast cancer in 2006; 2007 I finished chemotherapy. During that period (for me 6 months due to infections) I found oxygen supplements to be a godsend - they definately increased the blood cell levels to allow me to continue chemo. I also used green food (I am still transitioning to raw'er' diet) supplements. That said, I was able to overcome neuropathy and low white cell count using Ox-e-drops (I suppose any oxygen enhancer would be helpful), using it also with epson salts to draw toxins out of the feet in foot soaks to releive numbness. I have been continuing my quest to improve my health; and finding many resources. I hope that perhaps this helps in your quest also. Best Wishes

Hi Wendi and Jim,
Thank you for the blessings you bring us all.
I'm in training to become a QRA (Quantum Reflex Analysis) Specialist. My mentor Dr. Bob Marshall (a "raw foodist himself") has cured people of Lyme disease using mega quanities (90 caps daily) of his Betaine HCL (prestine beet-derived hyrochloric acid); there is a protocal to work up to that much and the treatment lasts approximately a year. You can call the Austin, Texas office (800) 370-3447 to find a QRA Specialist in your area to be tested to make sure that's what you have... if there's any doubt (sorry, if this was covered already, I didn't read ALL the comments), and then begin the annihilation of Lyme in your body with no harm to you whatsoever! People who've discovered this company have dubbed it "nutrition that really works". I, for one, am among the many success stories. Also, the website is: healthline.cc not .com or .net, etc. The website is under construction but all the main aspects are present. Good luck in this journey and complete healing be yours. *hugs* Beverly

Hello Wendy (I posted this a few days ago but now re-post it here as I believe it to be the more appropriate place now),
I only today have read about what you have been going through, I am so sorry to hear of all you have suffered. I am trusting that by now you have found solutions & are free from pain. I have been a raw-enthusiast-not-always-raw-vegan since 1979. In Dec 1988 I was bitten by a tick and became ill with Lyme disease. I was also in terrible pain, and finally took antibiotics, which did nothing for me. Looking back, I was glad for that, because I really did not want suppressed Lyme disease driven into my body to heal later, on top of whatever it was that made me susceptible to Lyme. Eventually I was treated successfully by homeopathy; I have been symptom free since 1989. It is a fascinating story that I should write up. As a homeopath I have successfully treated several cases of Lyme disease since that time. I have gained many insights since my journey of learning about Lyme began 21 years ago, which I would be happy to share with you if you would like.

Meanwhile, I envision your vital force to be strong and your spirits high. thank you so much for all of the inspiration you share!

Love & blessings,
Karen
